Detective Jon Engstrom

Detective Jon Engstrom has consistently been an innovator and progressive academic for the Technical and Electronic Support Unit. He is cutting edge in the world of cyber-crime, network intrusion investigations, open source investigations, and technology adoption. Local law enforcement is often behind the curve on these issues and Detective Engstrom has voluntarily taken the lead for the Seattle Police Department.

The Seattle Police Communications Center has been inundated with hundreds of swatting calls. These calls generate emergency responses to fake events and divert emergency responders from actual incidents. Detective Engstrom has been pioneering and relentless in his pursuit of remedies and investigative options to identify suspects who are skilled at covering their tracks.

Although this problem is not solved, Detective Engstrom’s work has set SPD far ahead of others as it relates to this issue. This type of work is consistent with the high level of excellence that he displays on a daily basis. He is extremely worthy of this award.

Nominated by: Sergeant Eric Chartrand and Lieutenant Eric Barden
