DETECTIVE COOKIE'S URBAN YOUTH CHESS CLUB

Neighborhood children meet at various locations to learn and play chess 3 times a week.  Detective D. “Cookie” Bouldin teaches them Chess, Anti-Violence, and Say-No-To-Drugs/Gangs. The chess club teaches a variety of lifelong skills to young people that serve as a model for developing a stronger sense of self, personal responsibility and a sense of community responsibility.  

Funds received from SPF will cover the program's costs of snacks, prizes and incentives for chess players, chess sets, professional instructors, teen chess instructors, take home chess sets, chess clocks, chess instruction videos, a portable video screen, portable projector, printed materials, certificates for chess players, chess workbooks, and transportation.
